ABOUT -
Maureen Robinson (Lost in Space, 2018) is an aerospace engineer turned space explorer-slash-survivalist from the not so distant future. She and her family—three kids, one estranged husband—were part of a colony group bound for a distant planet when disaster struck, and their shuttle crash landed on an unknown planet. The planet turns out to be riddled with dangerous wildlife, natural phenomena less than hospitable to human life, and one reformed murderous alien robot who wants to befriend her son. Also her husband is there, which is arguably the most personally inconvenient part (until working together to survive on an alien planet reminds them what they like about each other, obviously).
While Maureen didn't set out to get...lost in space..., she's not exactly an unwilling adventurer either. Quick witted and ravenously curious about the universe at her fingertips, Maureen thrives under pressure and she thrills at a challenge. She loves reason, and lists, and math, and clever solutions to complicated problems that are trying very hard to kill you. It just so happens that she also expects everyone else to similarly flourish in the same circumstances; living up to those expectations is a sure fire way to earn her respect and affection. Crumpling under them is a great way to lose it.
CANON POINT & SPOILERS - S1E10, "Danger, Will Robinson". End of season one. Maureen and her family have just made it off the unknown planet they crash landed onto, she's recently reconciled with her previously estranged husband, and they're all moments from rendezvousing with the spacecraft from which their shuttle was separated. Unfortunately, alien tech recovered from the planet has opened a rift in space, and sucked in the shuttle. Maureen wakes up in Sweetwater.
I'm not going to spoiler mark anything for this show that ended in 2021, but if you're looking to avoid spoilers the please let me know and I'll do my best to avoid them. —But also the show isn't that long! Just watch it and then come back; I'll still be here. :)

SEXUALITY & SHIPPING PREFERENCES -
Maureen rates herself a 2 on the Kinsey Scale, and considers herself off the market. She has a husband somewhere that she's remembered she really likes, actually! OOCly, I might be down for a very slow burn with the right character combo, but I'm not rushing to ship with her.
PHYSICAL AFFECTION - Maureen tends to operate in her own personal bubble, but physically tactile people don't bother her. If someone is being notably over familiar in a way that seems at odds with the level of their relationship, she'll make efforts to re-establish her personal space.
FLIRTING - She's not immune to being flirted with (and can sometimes be in high enough spirits to flirt harmlessly herself), but anyone trying to actually initiate a relationship is likely to find themselves running into the wall of 'Sorry, I have a husband to get back to.'
IC OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS/TRIGGERS - Kids in peril, child death.

FIGHTING/INJURY -
Go for it. Maureen has no combat training though, so she's not exactly any harder than a normal person to take down. In serious life threatening situations, she will attempt to escape rather than dealing with a physical altercation (unless someone notably less capable needs protecting). In non-life threatening situations... she's probably still trying to leave, but isn't afraid to throw a punch on the way out the door (even if it might bruise her hand).
CHARACTER DEATH - Open to it, but let's chat first. (Unless it's game-plot consequences, in which case: bring it on!)
MINDREADING - Probably n/a for the sake of this power nerfed game. But if it comes up then sure - Maureen has no natural defenses against it. Hit me up in a PM and I'll give you the juicy details.

AVAILABILITY & BACKTAGGING -
Timezone: PST; I have an erratic work schedule, and am down to backtag. That said, if it's older than 2 months then let's discuss handwaving a resolution and doing something new.
STYLE & PREFERENCES - I prefer prose, but will match your preference. I'm fine with any level of explicit sex/violence (though ftb is also completely fine). Heads up that I do 99.9% of my tagging on mobile, and occasionally get hit by some dorky autocorrect typos. It's not you, it's my thumbs.

THREADJACKING -
Ask for logs, threadjack away from public network threads.
FOURTHWALLING - No.
OFF LIMITS - No necessary trigger warnings, but I prefer to avoid topics of sexual violence and expect depictions of sex workers to be respectful. Mentions and references are fine (i.e. if rape is part of your character's backstory and it comes up in a thread), but graphic 'on screen' sexual violence, in-game plots heavily featuring rape or sexual abuse, and sex worker characters who are little more than plot devices are of no interest to me.

Sights & Sounds
LOOK -
Maureen is in her late 40s, roughly 5'5, and is built like a middle aged woman who's had three kids but also has had to meet certain health and fitness criteria to go into space. When she isn't actively in a survival situation (which she generally considers living in Sweetwater to be) or up to her elbows in machine parts, she is relatively studious about her appearance—hair DONE, makeup APPLIED—, though trends toward low-effort styling.
SOUND - Can you believe that this clip (starts at 3:31) is virtually the only example I can find on all of youtube???
SMELL - Soap, the cedar chips that apparently live in her coat pockets now, and occasionally the faintest trace of oil/engine grease/sweat.
DEMEANOR - Maureen has an active, in-motion sense about her even when she's standing still. There's a suggestion that she's constantly thinking, and gets itchy if asked to sit still or be patient for too long. And while she generally is surface level cordial and friendly, she is ultimately bluntly independent and tends to assume she's the smartest one in the room; if she's set on a task, she either is likely to blow you off to get to her to-do list or, worse, press-gang capable passersby into assisting her.

opt-out
Maureen comes from a family friendly survival adventure show with no notable trigger or content warnings. That said, if you want to opt-out of anything with her (or tagging entirely!) please don't hesitate to hit me up here. Comments are screened. |
